Nuclear Photonics 2016

Nuclear Photonics 2016 will be held at the Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa from October 16-21 of this year in Monterey, California (USA). This conference is the inaugural meeting of a new biennial series devoted to the pursuit of nuclear science and applications with photons and is expected to significantly impact the development of this emergent field of science. More information regarding this year’s meeting may be found on the web at www.nuclearphotonics2016.org and in the attached PDF overview of the meeting.

Meeting Purpose

Nuclear Photonics, i.e. pursuit of photon-based nuclear or isotopic science and applications is a new field of study that is being enabled by the rapid emergence of ultra-bright, quasi-mono-energetic gamma-ray sources based on laser-Compton scattering and by the creation of relativistic electro-magnetic fields with ultrahigh intensity laser systems.

The first international topical meeting on Nuclear Photonics aims to bring together in one venue experts in gamma-ray source and intense laser development and experts from a variety of disciplines for which these sources may enable new scientific, industrial and medical opportunities.

Topics

Fundamental nuclear science and spectroscopy, novel medical radiography and radiotherapy, industrial non-destructive material imaging and evaluation, nuclear materials management, nuclear materials transmutation, photo-production of rare isotopes, photon-enabled pulsed neutron generation and science, photon-enabled pulsed positron generation and science, etc.

Sessions

Covering all aspects of the enabling, mono-energetic gamma-ray technology are also planned and will include; development of compact accelerators, optimization of laser-Compton interactions, detector systems for bright gamma beams, gamma-ray monochromators, gamma-ray optics, next generation laser technology for gamma-beam systems, novel photoguns, etc. Special effort will be made to integrate applications and machine development sessions so that each may motivate the other with respect to the development of nuclear photonics as a new scientific discipline.
